Around the Korner is a non-profit organization specializing in early childhood education, for children birth through five years of age.

For every child to reach his/her maximum potential, both physically, and intellectually, each child has the right to progress at their own rate. It is our job to encourage and empower the children to reach their goals. We encourage independence, positive self-esteem, social skills, problem- solving skills, language development, physical development, creative expression, good health habits, safety routines, sound nutritional practices, and respect for cultural diversity

AROUND THE KORNER was established in 1997 as a before & after school care program for school-age children.

In 1998 the program expanded due to a grant from the California Department of Education. This grant enabled AROUND THE KORNER to begin caring for sixty-three children ranging in age from birth to age 3.

Another grant was awarded in 2001 to begin early education for forty-eight preschool children. This means a child can remain in our center program through the age of 6 or when the child is ready to start Kindergarten.

All staff members are active in our state and local professional early childhood associations. They are experienced early childhood educators. All participate in a continuous program of in-service education and studies for professional advancement in order to remain alert to the ever-changing needs of today’s families and to the findings of current research. They are CPR-trained. There is one teaching staff person for every 3 children in the infant program, one teaching staff person for every 4 children in the toddler program; and one teaching staff person for every 8 children in our pre-school program.

Appropriate to each age group setting, teachers emphasize self-help skills, respect for self and others, and hands-on experiences. Children are encouraged to try new things as well as practice previously learned skills.

As abilities and interests of children grow and change, the curriculum and related activities change. The staff remains the same and moves with the children through three years old.

Age groups are generally based on the child’s age and development similarities. A daily activity plan is posted in each of the classrooms. The schedule is in keeping with sound principles of education.

We adhere to the individual child’s schedule rather than the child adapting to ours. Emphasis is placed on the child as a unique person with individual patterns and timing of development.
